RIM (Blackberry) shows strong growth in smartphone market

 

According to a recent study of Gartner, RIM (manufacturer of Blackberry) has doubled its market share in the second quarter of 2008, compared with the same period in 2007. In the second quarter of 2008 RIM has sold 5,6 million smartphones, reaching a market share of 37%. The move towards the residential users has clearly paid off for the Canadian manufacturer.

The market share of the market leader Nokia in Q2 2008 was 47,5%, a decline of 3% versus previous year. HTC has reached the third positon with sold 1,3 million units.

The market share of Apple’s iPhone decreased to 2,8%. Accordinig to analysts this decrease is explained because of the launch of the iPhone 3G, announced for worldwide introduction at the start of the third quarter.
