RIM introduces BlackBerry App World

In an attempt to counter the successful Apple App Store, RIM has now launched BlackBerry App World, the online store where you can download a broad range of applications for your BlackBerry smartphone.  At the moment, about 1.000 applications are available for consumers in the US, UK and Canada.  Other international territories will soon follow.  In addition to user reviews, complete screenshots, and app descriptions, the store will enable BlackBerry users to recommend applications to contacts via e-mail, PIN, SMS or BlackBerry Messenger.

BlackBerry App World has sorted his downloads in 13 categories: Entertainment, Games, Maps and Navigation, Music and Video, News and Weather, Personal Health and Wellness, Personal Finance and Banking, Productivity and Utilities, Professional and Business, Reference and eBooks, Social Networking and Sharing, Sports and Recreation, and Travel.  The option My World keeps an overview of all the user’s downloads, with possibility to uninstall, re-install and premium application transfers.

More details in this press release and on the BlackBerry website.
