Innovative SMS campaign replaces recruitement letter

MobileWeb creates platform for interim agencies to connect faster and easier with job candidates.

sms recruiting

The classic letter of application seems to be outdated. T-Interim is the first agency that uses sms to recruit candidates. It’s a fast and easy way for companies to connect with the right profiles. Volvo Cars is currently enrolling the system to recruit 400 production workers. You send the company name to a short, easy-to-remember number and within 24 hours the agency will contact you. If you have the right competencies, the application procedure will start.

It’s not only easy and fast. It’s free, the threshold is low and people without e-mail-address are included in the pool of profiles.

MobileWeb launches De Standaard on Android

After the ‘Komen Eten’ app we are launching a second app this week: De Standaard on Android. In 2009, De Standaard was the first Flemish newspaper with an iPhone app. One year later, they were also the first with an iPad app. Both apps developed by MobileWeb counted for 23.000 paid downloads. The Android version is based on the iPhone app and adapts itself to the many different Android mobile phones and tablets.

The app is available for 3,99€. In this package, five newspapers are included for free. Next to the newspaper content, the online news is just a few clicks away. These articles can be shared easily via Twitter, Facebook or mail.

Also subscriptions are integrated: 15€ for a month and 159€ for a full year. Single copy sales are not possible yet due to limitations in the Android Market.

Smartphones will drive growth of the mobile market

2010 will be the first year where as many smartphones will be sold as traditional mobile phones.

According to a study of Royal Bank of Scotland, the smartphone market will grow steadily with 19% per year until 2012. At that moment 2 out 3 telephones sold will be smartphones.

Traditional mobile phones will see their sales volumes drop at a yearly rate of 10% until 2012. The developing countries will most likely be the key drivers of sales volumes for these devices.

In last quarter of 2009, 324 million mobile phones have been sold, an increase of 10% on a year-by-year basis. The sales of smartphone has grown in the same period with 30% with 53 million devices sold (16% of sales). Nokia is still market leader in this segment with a market share of 39%, followed by RIM /BlackBerry (19,8%) and Apple (14,4%).

Telenet starts with combined sales offer

Although combined sales are allowed for a few months now, there aren’t that many offers on the market yet.  Telenet is one of the first large telecom players starting a combined offer.  When ordering a “Walk & Talk 20” subscription at 20 Euro a month, you can choose a mobile phone at 1 Euro.  Among the mobile phones available with the offer, are the Samsung Star, LG Viewty, Sony Ericsson Naite and Nokia 3720.

If other providers are following, we could finally be on our way to a necessary renewal of the Belgian mobile phone park, which has been lagging behind in Europe.
